The 2026 Volkswagen Multivan offers petrol, diesel, and an upgraded plug-in hybrid (eHybrid) option, featuring a 1.5-litre TSI engine and a 19.7kWh battery, enabling up to 60 miles of electric-only driving. While the eHybrid provides enhanced efficiency for daily commutes, it reduces the petrol tank capacity to 45 litres compared to the 58-litre tank in standard models to accommodate the battery.

Who drives a Volkswagen Multivan?

Drivers of the Volkswagen Multivan are typically large families who need space for 7 adults without sacrificing comfort or safety. It's also a popular choice for active lifestyle enthusiasts, sports teams, and pet owners who appreciate the configurable, removable seating and massive load capacity. Additionally, it appeals to business users and executive transport services that need a sophisticated, high-end passenger vehicle for ferrying clients.

Which vehicles does the Multivan compare to?

If you’d like to compare it to similar VW models then you can also take a look at the Caddy and Caddy Maxi or head back to the general VW leasing page to view their full catalogue.

The Multivan also  goes up against more utilitarian but highly practical offerings like the Ford Tourneo Custom. For buyers open to different takes on large family transport, it's frequently cross-shopped against top-end, full-sized SUVs like the BMW X7 or large MPVs like the Citroen SpaceTourer.

Your Volkswagen Multivan leasing questions answered

There are many benefits of leasing a Multivan. You’ll get a brand new vehicle every few years and pay a set monthly payment for the contract length then simply hand the vehicle back and arrange a new lease with no fuss at the end of the agreement. You can also include a maintenance package which covers any MOTs, servicing and most expected perishables, such as bulb changes, for a small fixed monthly price.

The multivan has 7 seats so is a great choice if you have a larger family or regularly need to carry multiple passengers and want a roomy vehicle for them all to fit comfortably.

There is not yet a fully electrified version of the Multivan but the latest edition does have a hybrid model that has a fully electric range.

Volkswagen replaced the older system with a much larger 19.7kWh battery and a 1.5-litre petrol engine. This updated powertrain nearly doubles the pure electric capabilities, offering between 57 and 60 miles of electric-only range, alongside standard all-wheel drive. Like the older version, it still transitions automatically to petrol power once the battery is depleted.
